About this shelf

AI coding tools produce the same interface over and over: rounded cards, soft shadows, a purple gradient somewhere. They can do better. Nobody tells them exactly what better looks like, so this site is a pile of exact descriptions.

What is here

CSS snippets (buttons, cards, and more shelves as they fill), named design styles, and newer CSS features with browser support checked in September 2026. Each item has the CSS, the markup, and a prompt that describes the result in numbers so a tool can rebuild it without seeing the code.

What is not here

No sign-in, no likes, no component library to install, no framework. The snippets are plain CSS scoped by one class each. The demos on every page are the actual CSS running, not screenshots. If a demo looks wrong in your browser, the snippet needs fixing, and you can tell by looking.

Where the content comes from

All snippets were written for this site. Nothing is lifted from CodePen or a components marketplace, which matters because those come with licences that do not survive being pasted into a client project. The browser support figures on the New in CSS pages cite their sources (release notes, Baseline, caniuse) so you can check them yourself.

Who runs it

One person, as a side project among a family of small single-purpose tool sites. It costs about a domain a year to keep up. If a page has a bug or a support figure has gone stale, the fastest fix is to mention the page address in an email to hello at this domain.
